Peer-to-Peer Car Rental

Three new car rental businesses in San Francisco, California provide car owners with the opportunity to rent out their vehicles.

Online services Getaround, RelayRides and Spride Share are making use of the new automobile insurance law that came into effect in January.

The Californian law allows members of the public to rent out their cars without concern that an accident claim will affect their insurance policies.

The scheme is beneficial to both parties: owners can make a profit from their unused cars, while renters are offered a lower rate than most major car hire companies are offering.
