Rodarte’s S/S 13 Fantasy Film

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters and designers behind LA-based label Rodarte, have collaborated with film director Todd Cole to produce an epic 12-minute-long fantasy film featuring their Spring/Summer 2013 warrior-inspired collection.

Entitled This Must be the Only Fantasy, the film draws inspiration from cult 1980s fantasy movies Labyrinth, The Princess Bride and The NeverEnding Story, and features Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood and emerging 18-year-old model/actress Sidney Williams.

The film begins at a normal teenage gathering around a kitchen table but quickly becomes fantastical with white unicorns, futuristic fairy godmothers and sword battles with dark knights, all set in and around American suburbia. There is a retro computer-game theme running throughout and it ends with Williams sitting victorious over Wood with a PlayStation controller in hand and the words ‘Game Over’ appearing on the screen.

It’s not the first time Rodarte has collaborated with Cole. They first worked together in 2011 on a similar fantasy-inspired film featuring teen actress Elle Fanning. The film was produced by The Creators Project, a partnership between multinational computer company Intel and multi-platform publishing house Vice.
