International hotel conglomerate Marriott Hotels is set to expand its New York portfolio with the 1717 Broadway project, which will see two new hotels in one 67-storey tower.

Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn will inhabit the space alongside a six-storey glass block housing shops and restaurants. Architect Nobutaka Ashihara designed the tower to be “two independent hotels with separate characters”. They will compete with the Mandarin Oriental hotel at the Time Warner Center to be the tallest hotel in New York.

The Marriott Central Park building is pegged to open in July.
