The UK’s Radisson Edwardian hotel chain is offering the perk of free late check-out to guests who announce that they are staying at the hotel on Facebook Places or Foursquare. In return for clicking the ‘check-in’ button on either of the social media networks, the hotel will allow them to stay two hours longer at no extra cost.
While many hospitality companies have been offering discounts or free products in return for social media engagement, Radisson Edwardian’s scheme offers a service. Although hotels will incur a small indirect cost, the company claims that the free advertising will ensure a solid return on investment, in contrast to a deal or discount which could be more costly and difficult to recoup. However, it admits that take-up has not been very high – suggesting that late check-out may not be enough of an incentive to engage with a brand via social media.
The campaign will run until the end of July, but the company has indicated that late check-out in return for social media postings may become a permanent policy.
