The New Tradition Collection by Bombay Sapphire
British gin brand Bombay Sapphire has invited five design studios to update classic Christmas staples as part of its New Tradition Collection. On a weekly basis throughout December, a fresh take on a familiar festive decoration will be revealed. Each one is accompanied by a special tipple. To date, three designs have been released:
- Christmas Cracker: London-based design studio Boo transformed the short-lived Christmas cracker into a delicately mouth-blown table decoration in Bombay Sapphire blue. Instead of a joke and party hat, the cracker holds the recipe for the accompanying Winter Pine Twist cocktail, as well as a 3D-printed juniper branch featuring three glass ‘berries’ filled with pine, cranberry and lime-scented oils.
- Christmas Candle: American designer Stephen Hendee was invited to give the traditional Christmas lantern his signature geometric style to partner the Spiced Apple Warmer cocktail. Using the computer-aided design software and laser-cutting facilities at his local makerspace Open Works, he created three polygonal objects, constructed from black polished Perspex frames and white frosted glass triangles, which are lit with blue LED lights.
- Christmas Bauble: Functioning as a terrarium, the Christmas bauble by Brooklyn-based Richard Clarkson Studio has a little juniper plant growing inside it. The juniper is planted in jewel-like glass rubble made from recycled Bombay Sapphire bottles and lit with an embedded LED. Addressing the throwaway culture of Christmas, the juniper can be planted in the garden after the festive season. It’s accompanied by a Cranberry Ginger Twist.
