G.F Smith Unveils the World’s Favourite Colour

Marrs Green: The world's favourite colour

British paper specialist G.F Smith has announced Marrs Green – a vivid green-blue – as the world’s favourite colour. The finding is the result of a three-month survey of submissions from more than 100 countries.

The online survey invited the public to pinpoint their favourite colour via an on-screen, real-time colour spectrum. The chosen colour is named after the respondent who picked the shade closest to the overall favourite. Marrs Green is now a permanent addition to G.F Smith’s Colorplan paper range and marks the collection’s 51st shade.

The paper manufacturer launched the ambitious project in January 2017, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the value of colour across a multitude of age groups and cultures. It hopes the insights generated will revitalise perceptions of colour within the design industry.

Marrs Green was unveiled at G.F Smith’s UK exhibition Paper City in Hull. The 10-day event features large-scale paper installations from creatives including British designers Max Lamb and Lazerian, and Mulberry’s creative director Johnny Coca. A series of short films about creative figures’ favourite colours also accompanies the project – artists Bethan Laura Wood and Camille Walala are among those to share their preferences. Meanwhile, a pop-up shop showcases Marrs Green on various homeware and accessory products.

London-based creative trends consultancy FranklinTill will continue to work with the information gathered during the project, exploring how colour options can be tailored to suit certain demographics and individual countries or regions in the future.
