PFW S/S 13: Kenzo

Since Humberto Leon and Carol Lim – founders of US fashion brand Opening Ceremony – took the reigns at Kenzo in 2011, the LVMH-owned fashion house has experienced a total revival. The duo’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection only served to cement its newfound cool.

Leon and Lim looked to the brand’s jungle-themed roots for the new season (the label first came to Paris in 1970 via Kenzo’s store Jungle Jap), travelling to the Thai jungle for inspiration for their colourful and contemporary collection. Utilitarian safari gear was given a directional overhaul using sexy silhouettes and vibrant prints, with retro twists from a variety of decades adding a postmodern punch to the collection.

Tropicana and oversized animal prints provided a sense of the exotic, while halterneck dresses with bustier detailing added Fifties feistiness. The collection included numerous pieces with the potential to go viral among bloggers, such as the tiger-printed jumpers and denim jackets with tropical-print inserts.

Paris Fashion Week continues until October 3 2012.
