Modern Fertility: At-Home Fertility Test

Modern Fertility

San Francisco-based start-up Modern Fertility has created an at-home test kit that makes fertility information more accessible for women.

Available now for pre-order, it takes the same laboratory tests as those offered by fertility clinics, and makes them more affordable and easier to understand. It measures 10 hormones that provide information on the number of eggs a woman has, the efficiency of her ovulation process, and other body functions affecting fertility.

Women can order the test online for $149, collect a sample at home, and receive their physician-reviewed results – along with a fertility score – in a personalised profile via the company's website.

Modern Fertility's target market is young women who may want a family someday in the future. "We're building a test that makes this information accessible to women early in their lives," co-founder Afton Vechery told TechCrunch. "As I started talking to more women, it was clear there was a lot of anxiety over fertility, but no way to afford to test it. Every woman should have access to this information that is a better predictor than just our ages."
