Mover Kit: Coding Wearable

Mover Kit, now crowdfunding on Kickstarter, is the first wearable that children can make and code themselves through active play. 

Developed by British toy and game brand Technology Will Save Us, the Mover Kit is a portable device that encourages active play, learning and adventure with technology. 

Named Forbes’ Toy to Watch in 2016, the kit comes unassembled with a ‘mover board’, lanyard, plastic case, snapband and USB cable. Once assembled, children can then create their own “modes” on the Mover Kit by programming a motion sensor (accelerometer), compass (magnetometer) and rainbow lights (light-emitting diodes) with the computer Make platform, designed specifically for children to make and code.

Available from $45, with an expected delivery date of October 2016, the Mover Kit draws on consumer interest for digital/physical hybrid toys. Its combination of tech platform and physical toy may address the challenge of engaging easily distracted mobile Gen Z (aged seven to 21). Many app-based brands, fighting for attention in the crowded Apple Store, are failing.
