MySight360: Wearable VR Camera


A California-based team of developers has designed a wearable virtual reality (VR) camera system for hiking and other outdoor activities.

The camera, called MySight360, doesn't require the expensive mounts and rigs usually necessary with action and VR filming devices. Instead, users can wear it by clipping it onto anything – their clothes or a backpack, for example – at any angle. The video stabilisation tech embedded into the camera also ensures smooth results, regardless of how bumpy the recording conditions are.

Its 'one-touch highlight video' tool instantly transforms hours of footage into a short clip for quick and easy sharing to social media. A further 'lifelog video' function lets users film a five- to 15-second recording every three to 10 minutes to construct a 'lifelog' of up to 15 hours.

Weighing only 3 oz, the camera is extremely compact and can endure the harshest outdoor conditions, including rain, dust and heat. It is available on crowdfunding website Kickstarter for $199 and is estimated for delivery in April 2017.

The device is likely to appeal to modern-day explorers, who are turning to tech-enhanced products and services that make it easier and more exciting to cross new frontiers.
