International CES 2014: Polaroid Camera Concepts

Multinational electronics company Polaroid has unveiled two new prototype connected digital cameras at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Polaroid Socialmatic: This camera is a hybrid of instant film and digital. Users can print pictures in the traditional Polaroid way from the camera itself, or share images via wi-fi or Bluetooth directly from the device. The overall design concept is similar to that of social image-sharing app Instagram (the camera even looks like its logo). Like Instagram, where the filtering of images is integral, the Socialmatic’s accompanying app allows users to edit and filter images on the camera’s screen. The Socialmatic is slated for an October 2014 release.

C3 HD Sports Action Video Camera: Tiny yet robust, this 35mm sq cubic camera is waterproof, shockproof and mountable for hands-free action shots. Supporting Micro SD cards of up to 32GB, the wi-fi-enabled device can capture up to 90 minutes of high definition 720p video on one charge, and has a 5 megapixel camera for still images. The C3 HD is due to be released in June 2014.

Polaroid also promoted the March 2014 opening of an 8,500 sq ft Fotobar Store in Las Vegas, including a retail environment on the first floor and a Polaroid Museum on the second.

The International CES – the world's largest consumer electronics show – runs until January 10 2014. Look out for more detailed coverage of this year's event, coming soon.
