Nature-Inspired Aphrodisiac Taps Sexual Wellness Boom

I'm Outside

As we explore in Product’s Sexual Wellness Priority, consumers are exploring how aromatic experiences can enhance intimacy. Tapping into the sexual wellness boom as well as increased consumer desire to connect with nature, US wellness brand I’m Outside has launched Mating Season – a natural aphrodisiac mist made with stress-relieving and naturally arousing ingredients.

Leveraging the benefits of nature to enhance intimacy, the formula features botanical musks including cistus incanus flower, proven to reduce stress, aloe to help soothe the skin and amino acid arginine to support relaxation. It is also formulated with tree oil phytoncides (organic compounds derived from plants) to reduce stress and capture the ambience of nature.

Acknowledging the power of sensorial experiences, beauty and wellbeing brands like I’m Outside are harnessing the healing benefits of nature and how it ignites the senses. Immersive sensory experiences (see The Future Wellness Spa) inspired by the outdoors and natural ingredients have translated into various product innovations throughout 2021 as consumers increasingly value connecting with green environments. We anticipate this will continue to dominate the health and wellness sphere in 2022 (look out for our upcoming Look Ahead 2022 report).

A growing consumer appetite for intimacy and connection is driving post-pandemic sexual wellbeing sales among various retailers. In August 2021, UK drugstore chain Boots saw a two-third (66%) increase in condom sales compared to eight months prior when England entered the third full national lockdown in January 2021 (Boots, 2021). Additionally, searches for contraception have grown significantly: there was a 9,000% rise in searches for condoms on Boots.com between July and August 2021, compared to the previous year (Boots, 2021). See The Brief for more on how retailers are harnessing the sexual wellness boom.
