Nio EP9: The Fastest Electric Car in the World
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) start-up NextEV has launched progressive car brand Nio and unveiled its new supercar, the Nio EP9 – hailed as the world’s fastest fully electric car.
After just a few seasons spent earning its stripes on the Formula E racing track, NextEV is slowly shifting its focus to the consumer market. The Nio EP9 is a limited edition two-seater capable of accelerating from 0-124 mph in just seven seconds, giving the car 3G cornering capabilities. To withstand such gravity-defying forces, the cockpit and chassis are made from carbon for added solidity and aero efficiency.
The Nio EP9 has the clear design cues of a racing car. The cockpit is nestled low between large wheels featuring bespoke rims and carbon inlays, while the aerodynamic body includes full-length floor diffusers and a position-shifting rear wing.
The interchangeable battery system allows for rapid charging in 45 minutes and has a range of 265 miles. This enhanced battery range will play a key role in changing consumers’ perceptions of EVs, as detailed in Paris Motor Show 2016: Editor’s Picks.
Nio aims to bring back the joy of car ownership by offering smart, affordable, connected EVs. Besides the supercar, it also plans to offer mass-market models that will cost less than half of the Tesla Model S.
