Anodised Colour

Technical finishes derived from chemical treatments are inspiring designers and makers to rethink the process of colour in design. The application of scientific principles and laboratory practices in the workshop has led to the emergence of new materials and surface effects, aimed at a broad range of product sectors.

Anodising is both a complex scientific process and a hand-hewn surface treatment that shimmers with an effect known as ‘interference’ colour. Stylus explores the technique, highlighting a selection of innovative projects that utilise intriguing optical phenomena.
