The recession has encouraged Americans to develop innovative living solutions. Purchased at auction for $500, an abandoned house in Hamtramck, Michigan, has been converted into an experimental design hub for architectural development by a group of entreprenuerial students.

Determined to change Detroit’s landscape and save the city, researchers from the University of Michigan are now transforming disused spaces as an exercise to find new ways of building habitable environments.
