Pantone Colour of the Year 2017

Global colour system manufacturer Pantone has announced its forecast Colour of the Year 2017 as Greenery (TCX 15-0343). The vivid yellow-green shade is cited as a symbol of new beginnings amid complex social and political times.

Last year the company released two Colours of the Year – Serenity and Rose Quartz – to convey a need for harmony in a chaotic world (read more in our blog post). The two soft pastel tones are replaced in 2017 by Greenery, a refreshing, nature-inspired hue that speaks to regrowth and regeneration. It’s intended to be a “worldwide ubiquitous colour” in an uncertain and divisive landscape.

“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalise and unite, Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature”, explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone Colour Institute.

Green is forecast to become an increasingly significant colour over the next few seasons, particularly in natural and botanical shades. Read more about this progressive hue group in our Evolution A/W 18/19 colour analysis.
