Pinterest Predicts Top 2021 Fashion Trends

Pinterest’s annual Pinterest Predicts report confirms some of our key predictions for fashion in 2021 and emphasises changes in consumer attitudes from the past pandemic-ruled year. We highlight the top three fashion trends most likely to gain traction for 2021 and beyond.

  • Athflow: Described in the report as “where athleisure meets elegance,” a new approach to activewear that is both functional and stylish will be key for the coming year, as consumers adapt to a new way of living and working. Popular searches for this category include “co-ord sets”, “oversized outfits” and “house dress”, emphasising the need for practicality and comfort going forward. See Top Activewear Trends 2021 for more.
  • Cocoon Swoon: Similarly, a desire to feel safe, secure and comforted has resulted in ‘cocooning’ becoming a major trend to note. With “quilted clothes” and “fluffy slippers” seeing a huge increase in searches, everything from blankets and pyjamas to puffer jackets and cardigans are set to become the WFH uniform of choice. See The Homewear Opportunity and The Sleepwear Focus for more.
  • Up Clothes & Personal: One of the biggest trends to come from 2020, the popularity of DIY and upcycled fashion shows no signs of abating as we enter the new year. Citing Gen Z’s love of personalisation and craft as a driving force as well as lockdown boredom, Pinterest reported huge growth for searches such as “custom hoodies”, “reworked clothes” and “sweatshirt embroidery.” See Lockdown’s Creative Fashion Mavericks and Luxury Fashion’s Pandemic-Era Priorities for more.
