Raybaby, from Indian start-up Ray, is the world's first and only non-contact sleep and breathing tracker for babies.
Supported by Johnson & Johnson and hardware accelerator Hax as part of the Joint Consumer Health Device Program, Raybaby monitors vitals, breathing rates and sleeping habits remotely, while making recommendations to improve baby's sleep via a linked app.
Using ultra-wideband radar technology, which works much like ultrasound, the palm-sized device rests near the baby’s crib, tracking respiration and motion data with 98% accuracy. Equipped with audio monitoring, built-in speakers and a video camera that enables live streaming, Raybaby tracks how much the baby has slept, how much he/she needs to sleep, sends alerts when the baby wakes up or rolls over and provides tips and recommendations on improving sleep patterns. Using artificial intelligence, the device automatically infers sleep irregularities and instantly sends alerts if the baby is running a fever or seems to have a respiratory illness like bronchitis or asthma.
“Using a non-contact method of tracking respiratory rates means doing away with batteries and wearables on the baby’s body,” says Ray co-founder Ranjana Nair. “This is of vital importance with children, as comfort, hygiene and accuracy of recorded rates become top priority.”
