Prepd Pack: Connected Lunchbox

Prepd Pack

Prepd Pack is a new smart lunchbox that allows individuals to create healthy on-the-go lunches with the help of an accompanying app.

The concept, which has reached its crowdfunding goal of $25,000 on Kickstarter, comprises a set of dishwasher-friendly, microwavable and leak-proof containers that can be used in a multitude of combinations to suit the individual's needs. The lunchbox also includes a magnetic cutlery set that slots into a loop inside for easy transportation, while the lid opens out into a silicone placemat.

The accompanying app allows users to browse specially curated meal plans, compile shopping lists and follow recipes that are designed to fit inside the different-sized containers. The app also enables users to track nutritional information, share recipes with an online community, and create and save their own meal plans.

Retailers and brands are targeting consumers with products and dining concepts that complement their busy lifestyles and upgrade the eating-on-the-go experience, as discussed in Packaging Futures 2016-17: Fast Consumption (see Optimising the Ordinary) as well as Mobile Food. We've also seen how food and beverage categories are wrapping themselves around the needs of in-transit consumers – see Trends in Tea: Update and Reinventing Coffee for more.

Meanwhile, with the reduction of food waste top of the agenda for governments, brands and consumers, products that minimise food waste are becoming more sophisticated and intuitive. See Foodee: Smart Food-Waste System and New Directions in Food Labelling for more.
