Preview: Imm Cologne 2017

Clockwise L-R: Hoff, Caribe, String System, Kerman

Imm Cologne kicks off the year’s trade shows in Germany later this month, focusing on furniture, home accessories and products. Here’s a short round-up of what you can look forward to seeing at the international fair.

  • Eclectic Furniture: German design studio Ames will introduce Caribe – a new addition to its home collection Sala, designed by Sebastian Herkner. The furniture collection combines traditional Colombian artisan techniques with modern style and materials, and is also suitable for outdoor use. Consisting of two types of tables and chairs, the furniture is made from colourful plastic strings stretched over powder-coated steel pipe frames, combined with round seats and tabletops.
  • Modular Units: Norwegian design duo Morten & Jonas are behind a playful modular sofa called Hoff for French brand Petite Friture. The units, which have steel legs and textile upholstery, can be mixed and matched to the owner’s preferred configuration. Similarly, Frankfurt-based studio E15 will showcase its elegant modular sofa Kerman, designed by Philipp Mainzer and Farah Ebrahimi. With various seating and armrest modules, a minimalist sofa can be easily assembled to suit every need.
  • Updated Classic: Dating back to the mid-century, a metal adaptation of Nils Strinning’s String shelf system will be released by Björn Dahlström and Anna von Schewen. The shelves create an exposed yet sophisticated version of an industrial kitchen, with added hooks and rails.

Imm Cologne 2017 runs from January 16-20 – watch out for our full coverage of the event. In the meantime, see our Imm Cologne 2016 report.
