W Hotel's Flashy Façade

Lighting design team Jason Bruges Studio has transformed the new W Hotel in London’s Leicester Square into a public art installation with the city’s first responsive, illuminated building façade.

Commissioned by developers McAleer & Rushe, the façade – entitled Showtime – reacts to the ever-changing skyline of the city. Eight cameras mounted on the hotel’s roof capture panoramic views of London that are then interpreted in light form on the front of the building.

As the lights respond to seasonal changes and special events in the surrounding area, including film premieres, Showtime ensures a unique experience by conveying a direct reflection of the vibrant urban landscape.
