Roitfeld Does Retail

Former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld’s next role will be guest editor and stylist for Autumn/Winter 2011-12 at Barney’s department store, New York.

Proving just how valuable having a seasoned editorial eye on your retail team can be, Roitfeld will be responsible for the styling and editing of the American retailer’s advertising campaign (to be shot by fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti), catalogue and newsletters.

She will also be responsible for all the window displays at the Madison Avenue store in New York – to be unveiled in September.

Roitfeld has been reported by Vogue UK as saying: “For me, Barney’s has always been the biggest name in luxury department stores, so to be able to participate in this project with them, and be visible during the next fashion week in New York, is my dream come true.”

Barney’s decision to employ Roitfeld follows the recent decisions by a number of e-commerce sites (such as Mr Porter and Asos) to appoint former magazine editors to head-up content and is indicative of a strong shift toward editorialised commerce.
