Milan 2014: Saphirkeramik By Laufen

Laufen basin by Konstantin Grcic

Swiss bathroom brand Laufen debuted Saphirkeramik – a super-strong, yet flexible ceramic composite – at Milan Design Week 2013. This year, it's releasing new basin designs by German designer Konstantin Grcic and French designer Toan Nguyen in the innovative material.

The unusual forms of Grcic's designs combine circular and rectangular shapes, while inbuilt textured surfaces add both practicality and detail. Nguyen's design is more conventional in form, but exploits the limits of the innovative material by being super-thin and delicate in structure.

High-tech composites such as Saphirkeramik are becoming prevalent as designers look to new materials to create clean, ever-simpler products. See Materials Focus 2015: Seamless for more inspiration.

Laufen will be launching this new range at EuroCucina at Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week 2014. Look out for full coverage of the world-famous furniture fair, coming soon to Stylus.
