Andaz Advent Table

Capturing the spirit of Christmas, the Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel in London has invited Israeli/ German designer Eyal Burstein of Berlin based design practice Beta Tank to create a table inspired by the idea of an advent calendar and Christmas hospitality.

Promoting a sense of community and sharing, Burstein has sourced teacups, bowls and other trinkets from the local flea markets and vintage and charity shops of Brick Lane, Petticoat Lane and Spitalfields. Bringing these objects together into one piece of furniture, Burstein has trapped them within a large octagonal handmade resin table, displayed in the hotel lobby.

Each day in the run-up to Christmas, one of the trinkets will offer up a different treat made by the Andaz pastry chef to hotel guests, served with a warming drink. There will also be a series of advent events, including a talk with the designer, and food and drink workshops.

Hotel manager Arnaud de Saint Exupéry says: “Christmas is a special time of year at the hotel, and the advent table captures the essence of the season – generosity, warmth and unity. We wanted to create a welcoming area in the Andaz lobby for guests as well as the local community to gather and share the festive spirit.’’

The advent series of events runs until December 20 2011.
