Chirp File-Sharing App

British creative technology company Animal Systems has developed Chirp – a low-tech file-sharing app that transmits data through sound. Using a burst of digital birdsong, Chirp ‘sings’ information, including photos, notes and text messages from one iPhone to another.

The app is designed for quick and easy sharing between people in the same place. All you do is press the big yellow Chirp button, and anyone running the app on their phone will ‘hear’ the data. Users can also share their Chirp via Twitter, email or Facebook.

Chirp could be a great marketing tool – allowing brands to send information to their consumers’ smartphones during store announcements or even television adverts. For more information on the importance of a brand’s audio identity, see the report The Sound of Brands.
