LDF 2016: Design Museum’s Ceramic Takeover

Extra
The Designer Takeover at the Design Museum Shop window

As part of London Design Festival, The Design Museum has opened its new shop window for a Designer Takeover at its upcoming location on Kensington High Street, London.

The first artist to exhibit in this inaugural window display is British designer Bethan Laura Wood with Six Vases. A graduate of the Royal College of Art and a former Designer in Residence at the Design Museum, Wood is showcasing a selection from her latest Guadalupe Collection for Italian manufacturer Bitossi Ceramiche.

Brilliantly colourful – as is the designer’s usual style – the vases and bowls blend traditional materials with a modern aesthetic. Wood explored the Bitossi glazes during their collaboration and combined them with her own techniques. The designs feature geometric patterns with a glossy finish in green, blue and violet.

The completed display embodies two of Wood’s favourite things: collaboration and flowers, picking the blooms and making the floral arrangements for the window display herself to match the designs.

The Designer Takeover is on display at the London Design Museum shop until September 25 as part of the London Design Festival – watch out for our full coverage of the event. Meanwhile, see our preview of LDF 2016 and Transport for London at the Design Festival. Also, see Museum Retail: New Ventures for more on museums that are rethinking the gift shop format in London.
