Twitter Dimmer

Setsudener – an app that dims the brightness of the Twitter icon on your smartphone during the hours of peak electricity consumption – has been created in response to Tokyo’s rolling blackouts.

As well as being an inconvenience to everyday life, the blackouts have been crippling local businesses that rely on steady electricity. The Setsudener app acts as a reminder to watch your electricity usage in an energy-crucial time.

Most businesses are operating with reduced lighting and hours in response to the blackouts. Train services have also been reduced, and descending escalators have been stopped.
