Hussein Chalayan x Puma

Avant-garde London-based fashion designer Hussein Chalayan has unveiled his latest collection for sports brand Puma. For Autumn/Winter 2011-12, Chalayan was largely inspired by camera mechanics and speed, with several pieces of the collection grouped together under the title Urban Swift.
The Urban Swift line was directly inspired by Chalayan’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection Inertia, in which he used moulded latex to portray movement and speed. The collection includes the shoes pictured above, which combine the classic Puma Clyde style with moulded polyurethane spike detail at the back.
Chalayan was appointed creative director of German sportswear brand Puma in 2008, with Puma subsequently investing heavily in Chalayan’s own label. The Urban Swift trainers will retail at £200 ($325) and are available now in the UK from Harvey Nichols stores and Asos online.
