Tokyo Fashion Week: Modern Vintage Beauty

With Japan being home to one of the world’s biggest beauty industries, it’s little surprise that Mercedes-Benz Tokyo Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013-14 offered some exciting and globally relevant beauty trends.

Vintage looks were a key inspiration this season, with retro pin-curls and 40s-inspired victory-roll styles getting a modern update with a kitsch twist that felt distinctly Tokyo. Anrealage teamed its pastel art deco silhouettes with candy-coloured plastic cropped waves, while Motonari Ono's dramatic double-chignons had ghostly appeal in platinum hues with pale make-up.

At the opposite end of the scale, the grunge movement was referenced with wet-look hair falling across and over the face for a rebellious, unkempt beauty direction.

See our Seasonal Overview A/W 13-14 beauty report for full analysis of the season’s hair and make-up trends.
