SITA Tracks Travellers

The Copenhagen International Airport has partnered with aviation technology company SITA to create a new programme that tracks visitors carrying Wi-Fi-enabled devices as they move through the airport from check-in and security, to the boarding gate, and back again.

The monitoring system is entirely anonymous, only identifying people’s location on a three-dimensional map in real-time. However, individuals are colour-coded according to their status (arriving or departing), depending on the path of their direction.

It is hoped that by using this system for analysis purposes, the airport will benefit from improved traffic flow and be able to identify how to successfully drive revenues. SITA hopes to roll the programme out to other airports.

Copenhagen International Airport also recently launched an app providing passengers with information on security wait times and location-based deals from nearby stores and restaurants.
