Covetique: Luxury Recommerce

Repackaging the online auction site for the luxury market, Covetique – due to officially launch in spring 2012 – will allow users to buy and sell pre-owned designer fashion pieces, while following the style of those with similar tastes.

Created by London-based entrepreneur and former venture capital expert Nicola McClafferty, the site is aimed squarely at women, and strives to foster a sense of community via its ‘personal online wardrobe’ feature. Playing on the idea of coveting thy neighbour’s wardrobe, the function allows users to share their personal style, and follow others with a similar dress sense.

While existing auction sites such as eBay have always provided a platform of sorts for designer enthusiasts, Covetique is part of a new wave of sites dealing exclusively in the recommerce of high-end fashion. With the recession refusing to budge, similar sites are popping up across the globe – United Arab Emirates-based Toujours Chic and French site Vestiaire de Copines are two standout examples.

Covetique is currently in its soft launch phase.
