Christian Louboutin for Bella Freud

British knitwear designer Bella Freud announced a new collaboration with French footwear doyen Christian Louboutin for Autumn/Winter 2011-12 today.

While Louboutin collaborates with many fashion designers for his luxury footwear collections, this time the roles have been reversed. A series of his sketches – inspired by fetishism (pictured above) – will be incorporated into Freud’s knitted dresses and jumpers.

The two designers have been close friends for some time, with Freud appointing Louboutin as godfather to her son Jimmy. She says: "I have often admired his drawings and I wanted to use some to put on my knitwear. I love the way a drawing comes to life when it is reinterpreted in another medium. On a knit you get the sense of someone having actually drawn it, rather than it being a computer-generated image.”

The collection will be available from mid-July.
