S/S 18 Influencer Show: Fenty x Puma
New York Fashion Week got a much-needed jolt in the arm with Rihanna’s latest outing for Puma. Street met runway via Insta club-girl cool with a collection that packed a punch and ticked all the season’s emerging trend boxes.

The look was mean and moody with its roots firmly in both retro street style and hardcore sports like motocross and surf. Those influences drove the silhouettes – from the body-con scuba looks of abbreviated tops and cycle shorts via micro clubby tank dresses, to the weightless full-blown, all-weather outerwear pieces we’ve seen elsewhere this season.
High-shine cires and glossy PVCs contrasted with matt scuba nylons and mesh in an eye-searing urban sports palette of cobalt, ultraviolet, hot pink and high-visibility neons, tempered by a grounding of khaki, navy and charcoal. The devil was in the detail with an overload of 80s-fuelled plastic ski clips, webbing straps, toggle drawstring cords and industrial-strength zips, while lacing and mesh inserts and overlays upped the girlie glam quota.

Hero pieces veered from oversized – think blowsy parkas, over-detailed anoraks and super-sized, hip-slung nylon track bottoms – to second-skin cropped scuba suits and 80s-style, hipbone-grazing swim pieces layered under slouchy nylon cargos. All were given the X Games treatment with racer stripes, chevrons and heat-sealed rubber logos.
The sports-themed looks informed this season’s Fenty x Puma accessories, with sexy Velcro-strapped stiletto thongs, kick-ass chunky boots and neon bright shooties, while logo-enhanced fanny packs completed the retro sports vibe.
