Aeroville Retail City

Due to open in September 2013, the design of an 80,000m2 “retail city” called Aeroville near the Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris is to be designed with a travel theme. The five distinct design themes are: Nordic Chic, Tokyo Mix, Tropical Design, Bali Market and Africa Lodge.

The building is to be orchestrated by architect Philippe Chiamberetta of Paris-based Atelier Carbon, with interiors by multidisciplinary designers Saquez & Partners (also Paris based).

A single storey building lit by giant skylights, rather like an airport lounge, the space will comprise of approximately 200 stores, 25 restaurants and an Auchan hypermarket, creating jobs for 120,000 people.

Although there is no definitive word on specific retailers as yet, the stores will be “upper middle market” and aimed at travellers staying in hotels near the French capital’s transport hub, as well as the 1.8 million citizens of nearby towns Senlis, Compiègne and Chantilly.
