Berchtesgaden Youth Hostel

First it was the Hi-Matic in France. Now it’s the Berchtesgaden Youth Hostel near Munich in Germany. Affordable hospitality has finally shed its damp, dirty, dormitory image, in favour of eco chic.

The Berchtesgaden Hostel has 91 rooms. Much like the two Hi-Matic Hotels in France, it features bright colours, eco-friendly elements, and an abundance of storage solutions. The building, remodelled by German architects Lava, has a low-energy façade, floor heating, and a biomass pellet heating system.

The project is a pilot by the German Youth Hostel Association to improve the quality of hostel accommodation throughout the country.
