Influenced by its Colour of the Year 2017, Pantone has teamed up with peer-to-peer accommodation website Airbnb to produce the Outside In House experience, which immerses visitors in a world of ‘Greenery’.
A house in London’s Clerkenwell neighbourhood has been transformed into an outdoor-indoor oasis enlivened by the colour, as a way of introducing nature and a holistic view into the travel community. The vivid yellow-green shade was selected as a symbolic hue that reflects new beginnings in our current state of flux – read more about its origins in our blog post.
Using foliage sourced from the UK, the bookable residence features a woodland reception area, an indoor greenhouse that doubles as a dining space, and a kitchen with a hydroponic herb garden. There’s also a garden bedroom with a lawn and sleep-inducing plants, a tent draped with vines for children, and a botanical bathroom with scents and sounds of the forest.
Available to the public for overnight stays, the Outside In House is listed on Airbnb’s website, alongside a series of greenery-themed interactive experiences to sample across London. The environmentally friendly project will recycle its materials, donating plants to London’s community gardens and leftover food to UK charity Foodcycle.
Stylus will be exploring more ways to champion the colour Greenery in interiors, spatial design, products, packaging and more in an upcoming cross-industry-focused colour report, coming soon.
