Tesla’s Electric Truck for Intrepid Campers

Thanks to a cohort of experience-hungry millennials and Gen Zers, road-tripping has never been more popular, with the number of US citizens taking part in a road trip growing by 64% between 2015 and 2019 (MMGY Global, 2019). Chiming with this, Tesla is launching an all-electric camp-ready vehicle, offering a sustainable alternative to the classic RV.
The zero-emissions electric Cybertruck – an angular, stainless steel pickup truck – features a cargo bed at the back that can be converted into sleeping quarters, via a pop-up tent that expands upwards from the back of the vehicle. It also has a pull-out kitchen and foldable countertop that extend from above the back bumper.
The hardy truck also boasts armoured bullet-proof glass windows and an ultra-hard stainless-steel shell, and can travel up to 500 miles on a single charge.
According to a recent tweet from Tesla founder Elon Musk, the company has already received over 200,000 pre-orders for the Cybertruck, which will be officially launched in late 2021/early 2022.
This is a clever move from Tesla, as it appeals to both the growing cohort of intrepid Gen Z and millennials choosing to camp (see Youth Leisure Focus: Camping), as well as those looking to reduce their travel carbon footprint, as covered in Ethical Travel’s Mainstream Breakthrough.
