Jan Erik Waider: North Landscapes

North Landscapes is a colour photography series informed by trips to the coldest regions of Greenland, Iceland, Scotland and the Faroe Islands off Denmark. Shot by German photographer Jan Erik Waider, the images depict beautiful surreal landscapes of glaciers and icebergs.

Despite harsh climates, Waider depicts seemingly idyllic and calm scenery. Blue-toned glaciers are photographed through fog and appear to dissolve into hazy backgrounds. Vaporous skies fade seamlessly into water in whitened pale hues of Soft Violet and Pale Pink.

London-based photographer David Dyle creates similar imagery in a contrasting environment in his topographical photography series, Desert Studies. Read more about Dyle and the use of dispersed ethereal colour in our Autumn/Winter 2014-15 Stylus Spectrum colour concept, Vapour.
