Air New Zealand’s Nasa-Approved Pillow
With record-breaking ultra-long flights taking place across the world, it’s more important than ever that airlines find ways to provide a restful sleep experience. In response, Air New Zealand is now offering its Business Class travellers sleep-enhancing pillows. Developed by Nasa, they feature material coating technology that was originally used for astronaut gloves.
The outside layer of the pillow is made with Outlast technology, which enables the skin to feel cool and fresh, regardless of ambient temperature changes. The material is embedded with phase-change molecules, which have the ability to absorb heat from the body and store it, and then release it as the body cools – meaning users will maintain a stable temperature for a more restful slumber.
Currently available to passengers heading from Chicago to Wellington, the longest flight offered by the airline (20 hours with 1 change), the hypo-allergenic pillows are made by German bedding brand Paradies – a certified carbon-neutral company.
