Three-Minute Trend: Pampering Pet Parents
The early pandemic saw record-breaking pet adoptions, with ownership rising 4% in the US (Packaged Facts, 2020). These newly minted owners are seeking products, services and tools that help them bond with their pets. It's also increasingly a matter of mental health: 90% of pet-owning Brits say their animals have helped them cope emotionally during the pandemic (Healthday, 2020).
The desire to invest in their pets has accelerated trends we'd previously noted. In 2019, Americans spent a record $95.7bn on their animals – a 5.7% increase on the year prior (APPA, 2020). This growth appears poised to continue into 2021, with sales of grooming services, telehealth and even clothing on the rise.
In this Three-Minute Trend, Stylus' US editor Emilia Morano-Williams shares how every industry can attract today's pampering pet parents. From active hospitality to luxury retail, owners are looking for activities that incorporate their companions into their daily routines.
