Priestmangoode x South African Airways: Inspired By Heritage

South African Airways interior by Priestmangoode and Brand Union

Global transport consultancy Priestmangoode have designed the interiors for South African Airways’ new a320 airbuses, taking inspiration from the country’s culture, people and landscape. Created in collaboration with Johannesburg-based Brand Union, the styling features sophisticated colours with elements of pattern for a modern, yet distinctively South African aesthetic.

The contemporary South African architecture and cityscape is referenced with anthracite seats in Economy Class, in contrast to the golden earthy tones of African landscapes used in Business Class. A light blue strip runs along the overhead compartments throughout the plane, representing the wide, open African skies.

Details and fabrics are inspired by traditional African craft heritage – including batik-style designs and geometric woven diamond patterns based on basket-weaving techniques.
