Image Bank

Subverting the traditionally formal style codes associated with the banking industry this friendly-looking bank in the quiet Tokyo suburb of Tokiwadai aims to dispel any notions of intimidation suffered by those afraid to face up to their finances. Designed by architect and designer Emmanuelle Moureaux, the interior is just as playful as the façade. Colourful furniture, leafy artwork and white walls all create a space with a thoroughly sunny disposition.

This is the second branch of Sugamo Shinkin Bank that Moureaux has designed in Tokyo. The first used a similar colour scheme to evoke the same light-hearted atmosphere. Devoid of the harsh signage typically found, these buildings offer a refreshing alternative to the average high street bank.
