Later this month, Stylus will be attending the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit in New York (May 12-14 2016). The annual event is organised by UK-based specialist research company Organic Monitor, and is set up with the aim of “changing the face of the beauty industry by sustainable development”. Taking place at the Marriott Downtown hotel, the summit will bring senior executives together to explore and debate sustainability issues within the cosmetics and personal care industries.
As well as offering advice on how to integrate sustainable practices into your business while reducing environmental impact, the summit will highlight the most innovative green cosmetic ingredients hitting the market. The ever-growing, food-based personal care market will also be under the spotlight, as will the marketing and distribution challenges associated with ethical cosmetics and labelling schemes.
The five main conference sessions are Sustainability Metrics, Green Formulations, Marketing Innovations, Ethical Labels Update and Food and Cosmetics Convergence. Key speakers will include Jonathan Maher, vice-president of corporate social responsibility and sustainability at L’Oréal; Jody Villecco, global quality standards co-ordinator at Whole Foods Market; and Chris Birchby, chief executive officer at California-based suncare brand Coola. There will also be a workshop on Formulating Green Functional Personal Care Products led by Judi Beerling, head of technical research at Organic Monitor, and Sara Lampard, technical manager at Swedish-Danish company AarhusKarlshamn.
