London Design Festival 2013: Preview

Each September, the design industry descends on London for a festival packed with exciting product launches, fantastic installations and inspiring talks, and this year’s event (September 14-22) is expected to be as good as ever.

The theme for London Design Festival 2013, devised by worldwide design consultancy Pentagram, is ‘Design is Everywhere’. So expect to see a celebration of unappreciated objects and the design that surrounds us in our everyday lives.

Many grand installations spring up around the city during the festival, and Endless Stair at St Paul’s Cathedral is sure to be a highlight this year. Designed by global design firm Arup and London-based architecture firms dRMM and Seam Design, the impressive wooden structure will be made from 20 interlocking staircases – a reference to the iconic drawing by Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher.

Stylus is also looking forward to the return of the Global Design Forum. With British graphic design legend Peter Saville set to deliver the keynote speech this year, it is sure to follow in the success of last year’s inaugural event.
