Virgin Galactic’s Futuristic Airport for Space Travel

Providing a glimpse into what the transport hub of the future will look like, US-based spaceflight company Virgin Galactic has unveiled the world's first commercial spaceport in the Mojave Desert in New Mexico.

Gateway to Space will serve as a waiting area for the $250,000-per-ticket tourists waiting to board the first space flights in 2020. The port, which evokes a traditional airport lounge, houses a mission control, a briefing centre, a separate floor for pilots and a passenger lounge with a coffee shop and retail outlets.

Virgin Galactic has also unveiled its second passenger spacecraft, dubbed SpaceShipTwo, which will exclusively cater to the space tourism market. This spacecraft will join the brand's other spaceship VSS Unity in taking passengers (six aboard each) to an altitude of 50 miles above Earth.

As the prospect of commercial space travel becomes a reality for cash-rich travellers, brands will begin to assess how they can grab a slice of the action. From retailers to restaurants and leisure brands, the spaceport represents an exciting new opportunity to connect with super-spender travellers.
