Heathrow Transport Pods

Heathrow Airport has launched a new, futuristic-looking pod transport system for business passengers – although the idea was first mooted in the 1960s. The pods reduce the transport time between Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and the airport’s car parks by 60%.

The pods travel at speeds of up to 25 mph, and the average waiting time is just 34 seconds. Passengers select their destination using laser sensors and are transported with their luggage quickly and conveniently.

ULTra, the company behind the technology, claims that the £30 million development could transport up to 500,000 passengers each year, replacing 50,000 shuttle bus journeys.
