Sprayable Sleep

Sprayable Sleep

Sprayable Sleep – a new spray from Sprayable, the California-based health start-up – promises a sound night's sleep at the press of a button. The $15 spray delivers melatonin, a natural hormone that regulates the human body clock, through the skin.

Sprayable Sleep doubled its funding target of $15,000 in less than 24 hours when it launched on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo last month. The product has now raised more than $165,000, with 28 days left in the campaign. It is due to start shipping in July 2015.

The human body is meant to naturally produce melatonin as it grows dark outside, but modern lifestyles – particularly the use of laptops and mobile devices before bed – can disrupt this process by mimicking bright sunlight.

The product's creators say the spray is more effective than melatonin sleeping pills, which can have 300 times the amount of melatonin the body needs – much of which is flushed out of the body. They recommend that people apply two sprays to the neck an hour before sleep.

Consumers feel busier than ever, thanks to growing demands at work, in the home and from social media. As a result, many are turning to products and services that monitor and improve sleep.
