Whistles x Stutterheim Unisex Collection

Whistles x Stutterheim collection

British high-street retailer Whistles has collaborated with Swedish luxury unisex raincoat specialist Stutterheim on a range of raincoats, demonstrating how genderless and unisex offerings are filtering into mainstream fashion.

Whistles, which branched into menswear in 2014, has adapted the ultra-hip unisex brand’s classic Stockholm-style coat, adding a graphic striped hem and contrast hood lining. Each coat is handmade using thick, rubberised cotton, and finished with double-welded seams to ensure waterproofing. The design comes in two colourways: navy with orange and white stripes, or grey with tonal black and white stripes.

The coats are in keeping with Whistles’ ‘creative professional’ brand aesthetic, and reflect a growing consumer interest in genderless and unisex fashion.

British luxury department store Selfridges’ launch of five unisex fashion collections – which falls under a wider move to make three of its floors gender neutral – is further testament to the high street’s experimentation with new gender values.

From the recent menswear catwalks (full coverage coming soon), Prada showcased its Autumn/Winter 2015-16 collection alongside its Pre-Fall 2015 womenswear collection, identifying gender play as a key inspiration.
