Probiotic Coffee Capsules

US probiotic manufacturer Ganeden Biotech has collaborated with Indianapolis-based coffee company Copper Moon to launch a new single-serve probiotic coffee product using patented K-Cup technology.

The product is compatible with all single-serve brewers, enabling at-home consumers and office workers to infuse their drinking occasions with functional benefits. The probiotic used in the formulation – GanedenBC30 – supports the digestive and immune systems.

"The composition of GanedenBC30 allows food and beverage manufacturers the freedom to create innovative probiotic products that would otherwise be impossible," said Michael Bush, senior vice-president of Ganeden Biotech.

Ganeden previously released an instant probiotic coffee product in tandem with US food manufacturer Tipton Mills, covered in Next-Gen Functional Food.

The 'healthification' of everyday and 'junk' foods is a trend that Stylus has been tracking for some time. For more, see Chocolate Innovation, Super-Luxe Snacking and Fast-Moving Premium Consumption. Also, look to Relaxation Ice Cream, Anti-Cavity Candy and Functional Fitness Beer for more 'non-virtuous' products that have been given a healthful twist.
