Maya’s Closet: Celebrating Young Middle Eastern Design

Maya’s Closet is a new online platform that showcases a hand-selected range of young designers from across the Middle East. Founder Sawsan Ghanem emphasises craft over commercialism, sourcing and nurturing designers who embody a strong, individual aesthetic.

A University of London graduate, Ghanem holds an MA in International Business and has been at the helm of a Middle Eastern PR agency for the past decade. In 2011, she was voted Arab entrepreneur of the year at the SME Advisor Stars of Business Awards.

The aim of Maya’s Closet is to introduce, market and sell bespoke fashion from young Middle Eastern designers to customers in Europe. Designers include Hilda Maha – a Central Saint Martins graduate who takes inspiration from Albanian folk costume. The site also carries designs by Sugar Vintage – a Dubai-based label that fuses Arab dress with pop art references.
